Topic: Legal & Legislative Update

Speakers: John C. Porter, Esquire and Sarah L. Doyle, Esquire

Please join John C. Porter, Esquire and Sarah L. Doyle, Esquire at York SHRM’s Annual Legal and Legislative Update for what promises to be a Fun review of the year’s changes, developments, and missteps in Federal and Pennsylvania Employment Law.  Hear about the flux in non-compete agreements, employee-friendly changes in anti-discrimination law, whether temporary pain can be a disability under the ADA, and other changes and laws that may impact Human Resources and/or your workforce.

Sarah L. Doyle is a Partner at Stock and Leader.  Ms. Doyle represents both private and local government clients on an array of overall governance issues and day-to-day operational matters, such as creating and implementing policies and internal operating procedures, advising on personnel matters including discipline and termination issues, counseling on risk management in the workplace, and providing guidance and advocacy during litigation and pre-litigation. She regularly speaks on current Human Resources topics, including the employer perspective on Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana legislation, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), discrimination in the workplace, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and other employment and labor issues.

John C. Porter is a Partner at Fowler Hirtzel, McNulty & Spaulding.  John represents employers, municipalities, and their insurers in a broad array of employment and litigation matters.  As counsel to these organizations, John brings to bear his 14 years of experience in Operations and Human Resources management at UPS, Inc.  John has walked the walk.  John’s legal practice includes but is not limited to onboarding and termination issues; wage payment, unemployment compensation, and severance package matters; defense against Title VIII and PHRA claims; Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) matters, including guidance through the interactive process; non-compete agreement preparation, review, and litigation; trade secret litigation; employee policy manual review; and other employment and business matters.  John is the Vice-Chair of the Labor & Employment Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and is also the Legislative Chair of York SHRM.
