Topic: 

Many things have changed over the past 2-3 years with Unemployment benefits and UC Hearings and changes to their website on the employer side and third-party side and also the employee side of their portal.  Our presenters for this program will highlight the changes that employers need to know (i.e., no in-person hearings) and also tips on how to manage your calendar, documents, claims and separations and also managing UC determinations and appeals.

This program is targeted toward new HR professionals and experienced HR professionals in order to give them the knowledge and information needed in order to navigate the Pennsylvania UC system and portal.  Helpful handouts and printed program for reference will be provided at the meeting.

Speakers:

Sandra Catilao-Sanchez

Sandra Catilao-Sanchez began working for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, Office of Unemployment Compensation (UC) Benefits in the Allentown Unemployment Compensation Service Center (UCSC). She held several positions such as an Intermittent Intake Interviewer working in the Monetary Unit; UC Examiner writing separation and overpayment determinations and attended prosecution, and Unemployment Compensation Referee hearings; Working out of class as UC Supervisor.

In June of 2013, Ms. Catilao-Sanchez was promoted to the position of Workforce Development Representative.  In this position, Ms. Catilao-Sanchez works with programs and initiatives that foster positive relationships with employers and employees by explaining the benefits sections of the Pennsylvania UC law, assisting employers and employees who are involved in mass layoffs and working closely with the Pennsylvania CareerLink ® offices to assist the unemployed become reemployed.

Since May of 2022, Ms. Catilao-Sanchez is Temporary Working Out of Class as Workforce Development Coordinator as part of the Equity Grant program which is allowing UC Representatives to be face-to-face claimants as assisting them with their UC issues dealing with the New UC Benefit System launched in June of 2021.

Also Ms. Catilao-Sanchez holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, and a minor in Math.

Melissa Stevenson is a Workforce Development Representative for South-Central PA. In this role, she assists employers and employees with their Unemployment Compensation needs by conducting presentations and seminars at local CareerLink offices. Melissa has been employed with the Commonwealth since 2001. She is very knowledgeable when it comes to Unemployment Compensation laws and regulations. Her previously held positions were Bi-lingual Intake Interviewer, Monetary Interviewer, Examiner and UC Claims Supervisor. Melissa is a big believer in working together to get the job done and loves helping people.

Melissa met her husband Mickey, Income Maintenance Caseworker in 2001 at the Lancaster UC Service Center. She has one son, two stepdaughters, four step-grandchildren and a rescued dog named Charlie brown.

Personal interests include listening to music and spending quality time with her family.
